Paradise: Here is the Christian Laettner shot discussed on the show

There is a lot going on in the premiere of “Paradise” on Hulu, but if you’re here, that means you want to see the famous Christian Laettner shot that “Wildcat” aka President Cal (James Marsden) was discussing to Xavier (Sterling K. Brown) before his death.

It’s arguably the most famous shot in the history of College Basketball.

It’s 1992 and college hoops blue bloods (even back then) the Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats are slugging it out in the NCAA tournament.

It’s the closing seconds and the Wildcats seem to have the game in hand, until Grant Hill throws a football pass to Laettner, who hits a turnaround fadeaway and gives the Blue Devils a shocking victory. Duke storms the court as a devastated Kentucky team watches on. Coach K, Laettner and Grant Hill would go on to win it all that year.

And yes, to a Kentucky fan like Cal (whose codename is Wildcat and the name of the premiere episode is “Wildcat is down”) it must have felt like a shot to the chest.

You can watch the shot below.

Disney owns both Hulu and ESPN, it could have gone the extra mile to feature the footage, but it probably still wouldn’t have captured the moment the way it would have to any sports fans that actually followed it.

And Cal wasn’t even the first fictional character to get the name “Wildcat”, you might recall in “Speed”, Sandra Bullock’s Annie is called “The Wildcat” by Dennis Hopper’s villain, she of course went to the University of Arizona, who has the same mascot as Kentucky and has also earned their share of college basketball glory.
