“Watson” vs “House”: The two Sherlock medical dramas are too similar
“Watson” premiered last night on CBS, and the medical drama, which stars Morris Chestnut as John Watson, the Sherlock Holmes sidekick who is trying to move on after the death of the iconic detective, isn’t shy about it’s parent mythology (story HERE).
But my goodness, if it doesn’t remind of us “House”. The popular show, which also runs parallel to Holmes, aired on FOX for several seasons.
It’s impossible to watch “Watson” and not think of House.
Here is why:
The Ducklings: Watson has an entourage of younger medical geniuses. House had his crew (which included Omar Epps, Olvia Wilde, and Jennifer Morrison). Watson listens to their theories and teaches along the way. House was much colder, but had a similar dynamic. House even had Wilson, who was essentially his Watson.

The music and vibe: The two shows feel like they could even be set in the same universe. The sets are lit the same. The music, which House really made strides with, sounds alike. And even the romance with the higher ups is in tact and inevitable.
The searches of homes and strange connections: The Ducklings went to the homes of patients all of the time. And we watch Watson make these strange out of the box connections to diagnose these patients. House did the same thing.
Are these connections a crime? No. Will they translate into success for “Watson? We’ll see.
House is still enjoyed by viewers to this day. And in it’s time, it even followed the Super Bowl one year.
You can’t blame Paramount for trying.
