Wahlburgers in the Ashwaubenon Hy Vee is going away, here is what happens next
While the Hy-Vee in Ashwaubenon is humming along two years after it’s high profile opening in the greater Green Bay area, the Wahlburgers nestled in the front corner of the building is going away.
According a press release from the company (read that HERE) and couple of other stories in the media, the celebrity linked burger joint will be clearing out in favor of the Market Grille.
Judging by my daily visits to the store, it won’t be missed very much.
While the location looks great, the tables are mostly empty. The bar is a sanctuary for parents who want to escape the grocery shopping grind, or want to enjoy an adult beverage before continuing their day.
The rest of the Hy-Vee food court is excellent. Better than the food court at the mall next store, and certainly a better bargain.
Some of the options I enjoy..
A freshly made pizza that’s a meal and a half for an individual only costs $5 or $6 bucks.
An excellent deli across from there with an excellent pastrami on rye.
A Chinese food alternative which is also good.
And a cafeteria special on a nightly basis. All options I eat regularly.
And not to mention an impressive actual grocery store under the same roof.
The closing of Wahlburgers shouldn’t be an indictment of the marketability of the area. I’ve seen a Wahlburgers in the middle of a busy downtown area close. And there are plenty of better burger options nearby.
We should embrace the existing in house menu at Hy-Vee, including that $10 Thursday night steak dinner, which I usually try to get every week.
Bon appetit. And onward.
