Righteous Gemstones: S4 trailer gives us Baby Billy shopping a Teen Jesus TV show
You know, many TV lovers don’t remember when “The Righteous Gemstones” held it down for HBO after “Succession” and “Barry” ended, and “The Idol” flopped. But season 3 of the Danny McBride comedy was so good, that it filled both the drama and laughs space for Home Box Office with some tears thrown in for good measure. The ending to S3 was so good, you want to believe that they thought they were being cancelled.
But here we are for one last ride, with a season four trailer for our favorite family of evangelicals.
The trailer gives us “Baby” Billy Freeman, the uncle of the three Gemstones heirs shopping a television show to his niece and nephews title “TeenJus” which looks to profile of the teen years of Jesus.
Given how much fun, “Baby Billy’s Bible Bonkers” was, this feels like laughs just waiting to happen. Frankly, I’m glad we’re getting any Walter Goggins here with all of his other high profile work (Fallout, The White Lotus).
We also get the patriarch of the Gemstones, in Eli, “wasting away in Margaritaville”. When we last left Eli, it did appear that he was going to be a mentor to his grandson, who had expressed a desire to preach. It will be interesting to see how he got into a lifestyle of consistently getting drunk on a boat.
They’ve got the formula right over there in Gemstones land. While they already gave us a perfect ending, if they can peace together a few laughs, some insane optics, and a few heartwarming moments for good measure, there is no reason that this show can’t end as good as we already know it can.

The final chapter is at hand.
