“Crazy, Stupid Love” is on Hulu just in time for Valentines Day
“Crazy, Stupid Love” is one of my all time favorite romantic comedies, and Hulu has it on Valentines Day this year, which is the perfect time to watch this stellar cast remind us how complicated romance is.
Indeed, Steve Carell plays Cal, someone who just found out his wife Emily (played by Julianne Moore) has left him for another man. For Cal, this means getting adopted by Jacob (Ryan Gosling) a ladies man that is accused for being so perfect that his body must be photoshopped according to his love interest, Hannah, played by Emma Stone. Kevin Bacon and Marisa Tomei are also here in great supporting roles.

Obviously, this awesome group of actors is a big reason why this movie works so well. The dynamic between Carell and Gosling is just so much fun, and is really about older guys trying to recover their confidence after being out of the game so long.
There is obviously chemistry between Gosling and Stone. This would be the first of three teammups between them (Gangster Squad, and La La Land which would result in Emma’s first Oscar) and this is probably the most playful back and forth we see from the two of them out of all three movies. It all works.
Crazy, Stupid Love also carries a complicated but heartfelt message about love in time for Valentines Day. It’s not perfect. Many times, it’s barely functional and will burn you every chance you get. But it still remains a very worthy pursuit that will change over the time of your life as much as you will.
