Watson: CBS punts episode 2 into the middle of February
Last weekend, “Watson” the new CBS drama that chronicles Dr. John Watson’s life after the death of Sherlock Holmes, got an impressive rollout from the network, following the AFC Championship.
But now, we won’t be able to watch a second episode for weeks.
Because of the Grammy’s this weekend, and the Super Bowl next weekend, the next time we might be able to watch a new episode of the Watson will be February 16th. Almost a month following it’s premiere.
There are two ways both new fans of the show and TV observers like myself will view this move.
You might think it’s the right move: If you feel that airing the next episode after two huge broadcasts would dilute the audience, and put the show at an unfair advantage in the ratings.
You might think it’s wrong: If you believe that three weeks is too long to wait for a show’s second episode. And that bad placement of network dramas early in their run are reasons why many of them never last long to begin with.
You’re both probably right.
The best decision might have been to wait. Or at least air two episodes, one on the air, and one on Paramount Plus. This would have given viewers enough material to make it through this long stretch.
And so far, the show is just fine. The most interesting piece is that “big bad” Moriarty is being played by Randall Park against his comic type.
It’s just unfortunate that we’re going to have to wait until after Valentines Day to keep the story going.
What do you think about the long “Watson” layoff. Let me know in the comments.
