Green Bay locals renting homes for the draft without permits deserved to be fined
Nobody likes a greedy local government. And while I’m about to advocate for permits, there is plenty of room for Green Bay to reduce the burden on families trying to make some extra money.
Unfortunately, renting their homes for the 2025 NFL Draft here in Green Bay, without making sure it’s safe, isn’t one of them.
A recent story about the warnings going out to homeowners who are renting out their homes for the biggest event in the history of Green Bay, is garnering a lot of buzz (story HERE).
You’ll need two permits to rent out your home. One from the city, and one from the county for a health inspection. The combined cost is about a thousand dollars.
While we can and should push for those fines to be reduced (those prices are steep), we can’t disregard the inspections altogether. This is because any injuries or deaths tied to draft will not only hurt people, but ruin the memory of the event forever.
This is bigger than your own, individual, self-monetization strategy.
If you’ve got a bunch of guests in your basement, and they’ve been drinking all day and start a fire, you’ve got to make sure they everyone can get out safety.
It’s also a consumer issue. If we’ve got guests that are coming to town for the draft and they’re shelling out big bucks for something that’s not suitable to stay in, they’re going to do what they can to make sure Green Bay doesn’t get any future events.
We need to follow the rules.
But best believe we also need to see about reducing those fees.
