Land Denial in new Commander bracket system is latest blow to Mono Red Players
First they took our Dockside Extortionist, and now they’re not letting us burn lands.
Such is the life of the mono red, Magic The Gathering player in 2025.
I’m talking about the new Commander Bracket System in the game, that designates the power of your commander deck. Land denial is forbidden in the causual, core, and upgraded brackets.

Basically, any cards and common game plans that mess with several of people’s lands or the mana they produce should not be in your deck if you’re seeking to play in Brackets 1–3.
That means if you want to mono red in the most mono red way possible, which usually involves burning everything, many of your instants and sorceries are going to start getting greeted with rolling eyes from your opponents. And if you’re using an effect that will copy that spell, then you might get some genuine objections that will involve this new system.
Whenever I bring up unfair treatment for mono red players, I have to remind everyone that it’s the easiest way to learn the game and make a difference immediately in that game. When you nerf mono red, you’re shrinking the game to complicated win cons, instead of growing the game with the most direct mechanics possible.
It’s also worth mentioning that this will effects some of you non mono red players. One of the most useful tools to stop busted ramping is land destruction.
Isn’t that what we were trying to do just a couple of months ago?
This is a beta system. And I’m going to go ahead request the removal of mass land denial in brackets 2 and 3.
Mono red players like myself and many others love this game. Let’s stop pushing rules that will eventually make our community extinct.
