Unprovoked protest of Brown County candidate rally is an act of political hostility

This weekend, you’ll have another protest ran by many of the same protesters that have gone out marching over the past couple of weekends (story HERE).

They’ve protested ICE raids that aren’t taking place in Green Bay.

They’ve protested foreign policy regarding Ukraine even though the majority of Wisconsin (and the country) voted for it.

And now they’re going to protest a Saturday event of political candidates rallying with supporters.

This is bizarre here in Northeast Wisconsin because it’s unprovoked and hyper aggressive. These are methods you’ll see in Chicago or Minneapolis.

But it doesn’t matter because this protest isn’t about any of those candidates and what they stand for.

It’s about raising the profile of those protesting and lifting their own political ambitions.

And here is the sad part. Those protesters could easily stop this theater, go pick up some literature, and go knock on some doors. They could have real conversations with residents that would actually win votes.

But they won’t. That won’t lay the foundation for their own goals.

Choosing theatrics over tactics never works well. This is why those protesters are on offense to begin with. They lost in November.

You know, I spent a decade doing television and covering campaign events and protests like these. They look good on camera. And it’s an exercise in vanity for those who enjoy the spotlight.

However, it doesn’t win races.

And this kind of protest is hostile. There is not a vote taking place at this rally. There is no resulting action that will directly effect the participants in this protest.

It’s a show. And just like when the credits roll, the effects seldom spill over into the real world.
