Terrific news for fans of “Shrinking” like myself, and many other Apple TV viewers out there.

Jeff Daniels is going to play Jimmy’s dad.

Wow. I absolutely love the move.

And I love the move because the existing Shrinking cast is a team of wonderful interchangeable parts. You can team any two members and give us the laughs the first minute and tears just a few minutes later. That is makes this one of the best dramedies we’ve had in recent years.

Jeff Daniels has proven you can stick him in a scene with everyone from Keanu Reeves on a falling elevator, to Jim Carrey in a van resembling a dog and still get a great product.

Of course, this means they’re going to have to give us Jeff Daniels vs. Harrison Ford.

Paul vs. Jimmy’s dad. I need it like Liz needs her rocks.

And there are grounds for a beef. Where has Jimmy’s dad been throughout this entire mess? Where was he when Tia died? Is he responsible for the sometimes self destructive behavior we observe from his son?

Why has Paul been a better father to Jimmy than he has? Why has he been a better Grandfather to Alice than he has?

And the great thing about this is that Shrinking has the range to make this showdown whatever they want it to be.

They can give us a serious shouting match. Goodness knows these two screen giants can get it done.

They can go funny and messy with it. With the entire crew instigating the entire thing. That would be spectacular.

And I’ll close with this one question.

When are we going to meet Jimmy’s mom?
