Bill Burr “Drop Dead Years” arrives on Hulu with solid “tough love” humor

We as a stand up comedy viewing audience have become overly sensitive over the past decade. Gone are the times when a comic could hit the stage, say some wild things, enjoy a laugh with his crowd, and leave it all behind when the show is over.

It’s not like that anymore.

But Bill Burr has remained successful, despite having a confrontational style of stand-up comedy that is funny, but does give sensitive viewers some heartburn when he hosts shows like Saturday Night Live.

His latest special, which drops on Hulu this weekend “The Drop Dead” years, which was done in Seattle, gives us Burr not backing down with his “tough love” comedy, which doesn’t coddle the audience and doesn’t stop him from saying what he wants to say.

His best jokes have to do with open casket funerals, folding to the spouse in the interest of a happy marriage, and the mental health of men, who can’t let those around know how they really feel because people will goof on them.

He also takes some risks in front of the crowd. He talks openly about Israel and Palestine. And he insults both major political parties of thought.

The truth is that if you’re a Bill Burr fan, you’re going to enjoy the Drop Dead Years. And if you’re a casual fan of stand up comedy, you’ll be entertained.

If you’re a little bit on the sensitive side, you probably already don’t care for Burr and will likely skip this anyway.

But you should try to take the jokes for what they are. Jokes.
