Prime Video: Politics aside, first seasons of “The Apprentice” was peak reality television

Amazon Prime Video is reviving “The Apprentice” reality television show starring President Donald Trump, that was literally “must see TV” during it’s run on NBC. Especially in the early 2000s when the concept was brand new and we couldn’t wait to watch Trump fire a different contestant each week (the DVD even says “You’re fired” when you open the box).

And it appears that much of the culture has forgotten how good the television show was.

Now, I’m not moving into the political realm here. Believe what you want to believe.

But “The Apprentice” especially the first couple of seasons were terrific.

In season one, we had winner Bill Rancic, who has held a presence since then. Kwame Jackson, who was a solid runner up that was also popular. You had the feel good story of Troy McClain, who also had some star power in the following years.

And of course, you had Omarosa Manigault Stallworth, one of the best reality TV villains ever, who was peak drama back then. Of course, she would join Trump during his political push years later.

Then you had George Ross and Carolyn Kepcher, who were on each side of Trump’s in the boardroom and were later replaced by his children.

What will surprise you if never seen the show is how non political it is.

The first seasons of The Apprentice were a celebration of luxury. We saw Trump pulling up in the sport cars, getting out of the private jets, and actually giving business advice.

So, if you haven’t seen The Apprentice and you can look past the politics (or if you’re a Trump fan) you can enjoy what truly was one of the best reality TV experiences of the time.
