Doc: Five Things We Need For Season Two

Doc wrapped up it’s freshman run on Fox this week, and despite early dour posts from me, it hit a steady stride and kept me invested all the way to the end.

And I’m pleased it was renewed (He’s always going to be my boy, but Fox needs something besides Gordon Ramsay on its schedule).

Here are five things we need for season two of “Doc” on Fox.

Richard redemption: Besides, Molly Parker, Scott Wolf did the most solid work on the show this year. He was detestable at some times, and a borderline likable at others. I love the way his story played out, and I think you have to give that character a second chance in season two.

Let’s watch him make the repairs Amy had to make this year, next season.

A new girlfriend for Jake: He’s the only one that was a good guy from coast to coast this season. Let’s find him a new girlfriend and let’s make her super smart, super attractive, aaaaand a lawyer, because the rival doctor romance thing has already been done a hundred times on a show that airs about 48 hours after this one on another channel.

Amy doctoring outside of the hospital: My favorite Amy moment during this entire season was saving TJ on the plane. And that ace acting and writing paid dividends during the finale. Let’s get Amy in some other hero situations.

Better cold opens or scrap the altogether: The cold opens were too cold. Some happened so quickly that I wasn’t sure the show had started until I saw the title screen.

One more notable co star: Parker and Wolf are doing a lot of heavy lifting. We need one more character that will keep the show up while they’re not on screen. If you don’t want to spend the money, give Jake more hero stuff to do.

Otherwise, not a bad first season for Doc. And I’ll be watching to see what they do next year.

What do you want to see in season two? Let me know in the comments.
