Daredevil Born Again: Bank heist episode is a lot like “Inside Man”

Despite being one of Spike Lee’s biggest box office wins, “Inside Man”, the 2006 heist drama that had a stellar cast featuring Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Marvel alum), doesn’t get the kind of old movie “Glory” (real ones will get that one) that it should.

So, it was with heightened feelings that I watched episode 5 of Daredevil Born Again title “With interest” that takes place almost entirely inside of a bank.

We see Matt Murdock get tied up in a bank robbery after visiting Yusif Kahn (Kamala’s dad) for a loan he doesn’t get. But as he’s walking away he notices a robbery is about to take place and goes back into the building to try to prevent the innocent lives from being lost.

Now, we’ve got to talk about the robbers because this is where the similarities kick in.

They’re all dressed alike for anonymity’s sake.

They’ve got accomplices everywhere.

There is playful dialog with the police.

And there are important contents in a safe deposit box.

The escape plan for the robbers are similar.

All like “Inside Man”.

Now, I’ll spare you the conclusion of the movie. Obviously, it’s not going to end the same way as a Daredevil Disney Plus show, but its satisfying.

This post was not written to point fingers.

Why? Because both products were good. The movie is 20 years old. And Daredevil still ended the show very much in line with it’s own identity in tact.

In fact, it was one of the best stand alone episodes of a superhero show I’ve seen since the “Arroverse” ended.

If it’s because it’s a lot like “Inside Man” then I can deal with that.

How did you feel about the episode? Let me know in the comments.
