Daredevil Born Again: The Fisk administration problems are more real than you know
One of my favorite parts of Daredevil: Born Again has been watching Mayor Wilson Fisk.
Here we have The Kingpin, one of the most notable villains of my comic book childhood getting bogged down, by the same political red tape that almost every Mayor of a major municipality in the United States has to deal with.
Fisk has actually tried to get things done. And he’s trying to get things done the way the average guy on the street thinks you can get them done. And in a just world, the easy solutions would be easy to get done.
My once happy past is in politics. Specifically local government.
A Mayor can’t really decide to do that much by himself. Much like a President needs Congress. A Mayor needs approval from his council.
A formal proposal and presentation has to be created. That cost time and money.
That proposal needs to be scheduled on a meeting agenda. That could take weeks or months.
The board needs to hear the proposal. And they don’t always vote the first time. And if they do vote, sometimes it requires a second vote. That’s more time.
Then sometimes amendments have to be made. Then the process has to start all over.
Then of course the public has its say. And your idea still needs an actual approval from the board.
It takes a lot to get these things done.
In comic books, you can jump on a spaceship and collect the infinity stones in an easier fashion then it would be to get something done in local government.
That says something about the system.
And why Wilson is upset all of the time.
