The Pitt: It’s not too early to talk about an Abbot “Night Shift” spin-off
Let me tell you something. Over the past couple of years, I’ve come to really hate spinoffs and reboots. Read this blog and you’ll see that.
So, the fact I’m pumping a spin-off before the conclusion of a first season is something special.
That being said. The Pitt has been special. Easily the best new show of the first quarter of 2025, and I’d like to see what would knock it off before the end of the year.
We know we’re getting a second season. Max has a genuine Max exclusive hit.
But fans are already rumbling on line for a spin off. And they’ve warmed up to Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) in a hurry. Especially how he’s been a brother to Dr. Robby and an actual positive mentor to Santos, who’s clashed with about everyone at this point.
And while I haven’t followed Hatosy closely, his career stretches back decades, and he has no less than half a dozen roles on his resume for properties that have been a part of successful franchises.
If you put the right pieces around him and keep writing the way this show has been writing, then I’m really hopeful for a Night Shift show.
And the storytelling playground a night shift show would be. You could take more chances with the kinds of patients that turn out at night. It’s a far different world.
Anywho, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. We’ve still got the end of a debut season that has far exceeded my expectations.
What do you think? What does “The Pitt” spinoff look like to you.
