Saturday Night Live: Possible Explanations For The Quick Morgan Wallen Exit

The latest episode of Saturday Night Live is in the books, and the focal point following the show was it’s controversial musical guest, Morgan Wallen.

Yesterday, we discussed how Wallen was heading into hostile territory. The SNL audience doesn’t like country music and while he’s on top of the country music world, Wallen has made plenty of mistakes (story HERE).

Social media wondered why Wallen left quickly following host Mikey Madison’s close. He politely said goodbye to her and exited the front of the stage, without mingling with the cast.

The truth is that the close of the show was a no-win situation for Morgan Wallen. It’s very possible his team knew this, and believed a brief exit was the best course of action.

SNL audiences dissect everything. If Wallen would have stayed on stage, he would have been alone during the celebration. At home viewers would have mocked him for being shunned by the cast and it would have looked bad.

In leaving, Wallen was acknowledging that he wasn’t wanted there in the first place. SNL is very good about bringing in all kinds of music and hosts, even if their audience is going to be rude to them.

There may have been some defiance there as well. While I believe Wallen should have played “Smile” during his appearance, a bittersweet song about regret and good times, he played “I”m The Problem” which directly accuses his naysayers of making him “the reason”. If you’re not familiar with it, the track its very easy to misinterpret.

The best thing Wallen can do now, is to keep making repairs and strides into the mainstream.

In a couple years he could return and things could be different.
