Good American Family: Episode Four Ending Would Have Been Satisfying Series Conclusion
The story of Natalia Grace, especially in the prism of “Good American Family” is complicated (that disclaimer and cast explanations, yikes). But if you’re watching the show, it appears apparent that the Barnetts were victimized and that Natalia Grace is a monster.

Which is why the end of episode four was satisfying.
We realize it’s been two years (my goodness) since the Barnett’s have adopted Natalia Grace from the shady and now defunct agency. And her behavior just hasn’t gotten better. In fact, with the poison, and the stunt in the street with the boys, and her constant attempts to sabotage the family, its a miracle why the Barnetts haven’t gotten rid of her sooner.
The show ends with the Barnetts taking the proper steps to declare her an adult and leave her to live on her own.
It’s too bad that the series didn’t end that way.
Our problem from the storytelling perspective is that Natalia Grace has not given us any reason to care for her. She is trying to kill the family. She is in the garage screaming that she is going to kill them.
So, where do we go from here? The show’s not finished. And we have flash forwards to address.
We need to learn what events take place that cause the fracture of the family? What leads to the divorce? What leads to Kristine getting locked up?
We’re not sure.
But as far as from the angle of viewer satisfaction, watching Natalia Grace get found out and exiled from the family that never should have been tricked into adopting her to begin with, feels like a win for me.
