Why you should be excited for the “Once Upon A Time..In Hollywood” sequel, and why you shouldn’t

In what was a completely unexpected reveal, it looks like we might be getting a sequel to “Once Upon A Time..In Hollywood”.

Sounds great. Right?

Brad Pitt is on board. He won his Oscar for playing Cliff Booth in the 2019 pre pandemic classic.

Quentin Tarantino wrote the script. This would be a joke if he didn’t.

David Fincher is directing (he did Seven with Pitt, one of the best thrillers ever). While Tarantino isn’t at the helm, he wouldn’t hand over his work to just any scrub.

So what’s the catch?

Well, it’s coming out on Netflix.

Now, Netflix is a lot like throwing darts. Sometimes they hit the mark with acquired properties (Cobra Kai). More often they miss (Beverly Hills Cop, That 90s Show).

The big question, is “Can Netflix put this sequel on a track, where it will not only be seen, but in a position where Tarantino’s writing and Fincher’s eye can get the treatment it needs?”

The truth is that it could go either way.

Netflix puts out so much content every week, that films that feel like they should be a big deal, often get missed (looking at you Electric State).

It would be a travesty for this sequel to be just another rollout for Netflix.

I would rather the movie not get made.

And mind you, we don’t really need this. Cliff Booth and Rick Dalton got their happy, best friends ending in the movie. And the final 20 minutes are some of the best moments you can watch in a full movie theater. I’ll never forget Leo coming out of the shed with that flame thrower.

Let’s see what happens.
