Alert Missing Persons Unit: Why the Nikki death reminded me of New York Undercover
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged about Alert: Missing Persons Unit. I covered the first season wire to wire and life has gotten in the way ever since. I do root for this cast. Scott Caan, Ryan Broussard, and Dania Ramirez all do terrific work. And Jason Grant is one of the coolest protagonists on television.

So, imagine my shock when I learned that Nikki was killed on some random episode this week. Unreal. Explanations behind the death are vague. I hope we get some clarity from Ramirez herself in the future.
But the death of Nikki Batista reminded me so much of the death of Eddie Torres from another Fox crime show from decades ago “New York Undercover”.
I was hyped that there was finally a hero on TV that had my last name. And Michael DeLorenzo was doing some great work in the 90s.
Then out of nowhere, he was killed.
Just like Nikki, Eddie was recently doing the marriage thing.
Just like Nikki, Eddie was a dynamic action character.
And just like Nikki, Eddie “got, got” on some random episode in the third season of the show.
You have got to wonder if the writers were inspired by New York Undercover. If not, it’s a wild coincidence.
Now, here is where you Alert: MPU fans have to hope the similarities end.
New York Undercover was never the same after Torres was killed. It flailed about for a little while longer and was cancelled.
There is going to be enough momentum from the Nikki death in the news cycle to boost interest but it won’t last.
It’s going to be a very interesting season for Alert: Missing Persons Unit.
