Here is the social media trend ruining “A Minecraft Movie” screenings
“A Minecraft Movie” premieres this weekend, and while the latest video game iteration to hit theaters is expected to do well, a few movie theater chains are issuing warnings to customers about a disruptive social media trending ruining the screenings for casual fans.
The trend involves fans cheering loudly, jumping on chairs, and throwing popcorn at the screen whenever certain lines of dialog are said.
While many would consider the cheers to be part of a rewarding movie theater going experience, the trend exaggerates the action, and is intended to be deliberately annoying to those who want to watch the movie.
Cellphone use in theaters is generally prohibited to begin with because of illegal recording of the film, and the lights from the devices disturbing other guests.
Premiere issued the following statement on it’s own social media channels..
“It has been brought to our attention that guests are interacting with the “Minecraft Movie” due to a disruptive social media trend that has been posted.
While we hope everyone enjoys their showing, we ask that you REFRAIN from any shouting or actions that may be disruptive to others.
In the event that we are notified of such behavior, disruptive guests will be REMOVED.
Do not hesitate to contact a member of management if you have any concerns”
“A Minecraft Movie” stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge, and has been a long anticipated movie for fans of the game that spans multiple generations.
Disruptions are more common than ever doing movie theater experiences. This as well as higher ticket prices, and a faster transition to streaming, have made the at-home experience more preferable to some customers in recent years.
