Wisconsin budget should defintely reimburse Green Bay for NFL Draft public safety
In less than two weeks, about a quarter of a million people from around the world will converge on the Greater Green Bay area to attend the 2025 NFL Draft. And the rest of the world will be watching from home.
The global spotlight will truly be shining on Northeast Wisconsin for a weekend.
Of course, the priority for everyone involved should be having the safest NFL Draft in history. That’s the goal.
Like everything else in life that cost money.
Which is why I was encouraged to see two local state lawmakers propose $1.25 million dollars in reimbursement dollars for the draft in the state budget. This joins the $1 million dollar proposal from the Governor (story HERE).
For those who aren’t career long political animals like myself, alignment between legislators and the governor over budget items bode very well for the cause.
The proposal is cut up nicely among Brown County, the City of Green Bay and their fire department. Even The Village of Ashwaubenon, who has dragged their feet during some phases of planning, and has had residents speak out against the draft, would see some money.
When you’re looking at the proposal from above, it’s a slam dunk. The money is already being spent. This is a true reimbursement.
And don’t forget the economic impact of the NFL Draft. This is going to pump millions and millions into the Green Bay economy. And it’s not all mega corporations either, a lot of mom and pop businesses are going to do well this month.
Call your state lawmakers and ask them to support this budget item.
