Yes, groceries in Green Bay are getting more expensive
If you’ve noticed that your grocery bills have been steadily rising over the past couple of months, you’re not alone. There has been an indisputable increase in food costs over the past couple of months in Northeast Wisconsin.
My grocery bill has gone up about 20 percent.
Now, I’m not going to give you an economy lecture or start pointing fingers over who is to blame. You could probably come up with your own solutions, or depending on your political beliefs, figure out someone who is at fault.
Instead, this piece is to tell you that you’re not alone in noticing those steady increases.
If you’re on a tight budget like myself, you’ve noticed that your staples, such as milk and select breads and vegetables have gone up at stores like Festival Foods, Pick and Save, and Hy-Vee. Even popular budget outlets like Wal Mart and Aldi seem to be charging more.
Then you’ve got your “treats”. The popular steak dinner at the Aswaubenon Hy-Vee that was once $10 dollars is now $12. You can find similar hikes at the other stores mentioned. Those fun nights will have to stay on hold for a while.
And I can’t even imagine what families in the Greater Green Bay area are going through. I’m a single guy. If you’ve got a family of four, then these hikes are going to require some cutting backs in other areas of your budget to sustain. And then there are the very real fears that prices may never go down.
We’ll find a way to get through it. But the call to action is the same. We have to communicate our challenges with everyone to get them addressed.
