Poker Face: S2E3 “Whack-A-Mole” Recap
Wow, after that cliffhanger ending in episode two, they’re sure trying to push us through these three premiere episodes of “Poker Face”. If you want a recap of what happened last time, you can read HERE.
What Happened in “Whack-A-Mole”?: The show begins with a flashback from a year ago but quickly shifts back to present day, where Beatrix tells Charlie her operation is a mess because of her. She gives Charlie an ultimatum to help her escape the country by determining who in her operation is a mole. After determining no one in her hotel room is a mole, Beatrix says that Charlie is going with them anyway.
At the airfield, everything appears to go sideways. The feds are waiting on the group, Beatrix’s husband, Jeffrey appears to be shot, and Beatrix kills Luca the FBI agent. We flashback again to an FBI briefing and then the convenience store scene where we learn Daniel is a mole in the FBI tipping off Beatrix. And it’s actually Jeffrey who is tipping off the feds. But Danny is spying on their meet.
Never a good thing to do twice in a three episode premiere, but I have to ask if you’re still with me? Good.
Luca says he will fake Jeffrey’s death at the raid. We get another flashback to the hotel and discover that Charlie knew Jeffrey was lying about being an informant. She calls Luca to let him know. At the raid we learned that gun was full of blanks meant to fake Jeffrey’s death, but Danny had switched them out. This is why Luca survived and Jeffrey still died.
Beatrix decides she’ll give up Danny for a pilot, and Charlie calls Luca but is discovered before he can find out who the mole is. Luca finally decides to rush the plane and confront Beatrix directly. After an appeal, Beatrix finally reveals that Danny is the mole, but not before Danny can board the plane. After a struggle, Charlie and Luca are able to stop Danny and he’s put in cuffs.
Beatrix got witness protection for giving up Danny, and agrees to cancel the hit on Charlie. Charlie takes out a road map drops, a finger on a random location, and drives off an unhunted woman for the first time in the series.
Trivia and Tie-ins:
John Mulaney and Richard Kind are actually both on “Everybody’s Live” right now on Netflix.
Yeah, Luca actually had a rat on his phone wallpaper for the Hasp informant.
Chris Bauer (Hooper) has been around for decades and has always been underappreciated.
Luca has a 202 Washington, D.C area code on his phone. Nice touch.
Watching my favorite stand-ups (Mulaney) talk to one of my favorite TV characters of the moment (Charlie) was a treat.
Quotes:
Beatrix: “Oh you millennials, b***h, b***h, b****h”
Daniel (to the FBI lip reader): “I don’t need f*****g commentary. Just read the lips, please.”
Beatrix: “You want me to rat on my mole, like a snake?!”
Luca (about FBI agent demographics): “We’re all typical white guys. We have some serious flaws with our hiring process.”
(Danny trying to bribe Charlie)
Danny: “You’ve got an off shore account?”
Charlie: “I don’t even have an on shore one.”
Hope you enjoyed this recap. Catch me after the next episode!!!!
