It’s the wedding none of us really want to go to, but can’t wait to see what drama unfolds from it. The upcoming wedding between Serena Joy Waterford and High Commander Wharton, as The Handmaid’s Tale goes speeding towards its conclusion.

Hulu sent out an email invitation to it’s viewers over the weekend ahead of the nuptials, where the fate of Gilead and the United States may be determined, as June and Mayday plan their attack to kill all of the high commanders as they converge in one place.

The invitation reads…

“You’re invited to the event of the season. Serena Joy Waterford and High Commander Wharton request the honor of your presence at their union Boston, Gilead. Tuesday, May 13th EDT. Special invite to Handmaids. Ms. Serena Joy especially requests your attendance. Be sure to wear your red with pride.”

And in barely legible print we see “Special wedding gifts will be provided Mayday is with you.”

The bride is in a particularly tough place.

Many viewers are conflicted about Serena Joy. They understand the evil things she’s done and her treatment of June early on in the series, but some also understand that there may be some good in the woman who once wanted to lift up women everywhere before the rise of Gilead. She is even a supporter of the New Bethlehem project despite the objections from the other wives.

The decision over whether she lives or dies at the end of the series will be spoken about for some time.

And then of course, there is the actual battle that will likely take place with the United States fighting to take back their nation.

Exciting stuff.
