Here we are with “Bet” on Netflix, which has an interesting premise, but has been flying under the radar hypewise. Let’s not waste anymore time.

What Happened on “Game On”?: We meet Yumeko aka “kakegegurui” who was born in Japan, who wins a hand gambling in detention. The group is then discovered by the principal and she is expelled. Afterwards she is sent to St. Dominic’s. A school for those who will rule the world in the future.

At St. Dominic’s we meet Mary and Ryan. The former beats the ladder and turns him into her servant. Afterwards, Ryan meets Yumeko and explains to her that St. Dominics is where presidents, CEOs, and crime lords go to school. He continues that gambling is the social ladder in the school and the more you win the higher you climb.

Yumeko’s roommate is Blake Samuels, who’s last roommate, Amanda, died after challenging head gambler and student council president, Kira. Yumeko then bets Blake 10K that she’ll willingly give up her side of the room.

At lunch Yumeko meets much of the council including Kira, who she offers a gift to. They’re interrupted by Michael who warns Yumeko about Kira and reminds her that they don’t have to gamble. Instead, Yumeko immediately challenges Mary, before we’re sent on a flashback to 12 years earlier where Yumeko is taught that gambling is supposed to be fun.

Mary and Yumeko prepare to play skirmish. During the game she catches Ryan trying to help Mary. Yumeko then decides to offer half of her winnings to Ryan to offset his debt. After upping the stakes to $100,000, Yumeko promptly defeats Mary and sends her “below the line” making her a house pet. Afterwards, Mary warns Yumeko that she has to cheat to survive at St. Dominic’s.

When she returns to her room, we see that Blake has given up her side of the room. Ryan visits Yumeko, where she declares she’s here “for blood”. We’re shown one last flashback of a car bomb killing Yumeko’s dad before the credits pop.
