Green Bay Retail and Food Service Workers remain stranded on Sundays

The great thing about the Greater Green Bay area is that if you’ve got a good heart and a strong work ethic, you can not only do well in the area, but you can thrive. Even in fields that might not be able to do the trick alone in other regions, such as retail and food service.

But the real challenge for these young workers, who are trying to climb that mountain can be transportation. Especially on Sundays.

There are no solutions for transportation in the greater Green Bay area after dinner time on Saturdays. You’re on your own.

The bus system that does well on the other six days of the week (I ride it almost everyday), can’t run because we don’t have enough money to fund it.

If you’re a reader with car who just happened to stumble across this article you might be asking yourself “What does this have to do with me?”. Why should I care? It doesn’t effect me.”

It actually does.

This is because when you’re playing, these food service and retail workers are behind the scenes making it happen.

A great example of this is the retail hub in Ashwaubenon. I’ve been in the bus or on-demand shuttle with plenty of workers that have to call out on Sundays because they can’t find a ride.

These absences strain the workers that do show up and result in burn out and more turnover. Then you end up with a shuttered KFC, Moes and mall stores that can’t stay open.

The solution here is funding. That could come in different ways. But the conversation has to start. That’s where you come in.

If you’re serious about a thriving greater Green Bay area that can fire all on cylinders any day of the week, then we have to talk about more funding for public transportation.
