The Waterfront: S1E6 “Nice Try” Recap
Only two more episodes of The Waterfront this season, and there hasn’t been a shortage of things going one. Let’s see how the Buckleys deal with their Grady “The Hugger” problem.
What Happened on Episode Six “Nice Try”: We begin with Cane and Jenna in bed after hooking up. He gets the call from Belle that Harlan was tortured by Grady with Man O’ Wars (what’s the plural for that?). But when Cane arrives his old man is more concerned about the land deal that could take everything. Harlan also thinks the only way to deal with Grady is by killing him.
Grady calls him and he’s got the Buckleys being watched by his guys. He ends the call and takes some shots at his watcher. At the fishery, Cane brings up Emmett Parker. Harlan says he’s responsible for the death of his grandfather and he has a huge operation in the south.
Bree goes to see Diller but she’s ambushed by her ex and a social worker who wants her to take a drug test. Bree waves them off and says she’ll call her lawyers. She sees Diller from his bedroom window and they share a polite moment. But when she arrives at the restaurant, Belle gives her a tough time about relapsing.
At the warehouse, Cane and Harlan meet Emmett and his father, Jeb. They try to cut a deal but want exclusivity which means Grady, gone. The Parkers decide to go along.
Back at the house, Belle tells Harlan she slept with Wes. At the restaurant, Rodney says Diller ran away after he learned they were going to move to Virginia Beach.
Things go a little better between Shawn and Harlan who decide to go on a fishing trip, where Harlan will tell him everything.
When Cane gets back to the fishery, he finds two of Emmett Parker’s men dead and holding signs that say “Nice Try”. Right afterwards, Harlan and Shawn are ambushed on the road. Cane and Belle clear the fishery and try to find the head of their family.
Bree finds Diller and the two have a good talk before he returns home. However she goes to the fishery and finds her mom trying to dispose of a body.
Back at Grady’s farm, Harlan plays dumb but Grady discovers Shawn is his son. Cane and his allies head out for a rescue and they blow up Grady’s drug house just as he’s planning an ambush for the Parkers. The rescue is successful but we lose Tim.
At the fishery, Bree gets another call from Rodney about Diller that he still hasn’t come home. She goes to search for him but is grabbed by some thugs as the credits pop.
Quotes:
(after shooting at Grady’s flunky and cursing him out on the phone)
Cane: “That solved nothing”
Harlan: “It felt good”
Harlan: “Selling drugs is the drug. You get that money in your pocket. Ego in your head. It’s hard to find your way back.”
Diller (voicemail): “Text me. I don’t talk on the phone.”
Grady (after learning Shawn is Harlan’s son): “Holy adultery! Is that true? That’s not fair. Everybody gets to be your son.”
Bree (cleaning up blood): “Mom, I haven’t been able to breath since I was seven years old.”
Trivia and Observations:
In the last day, Grady has hurt two Buckleys and sent them both flowers. What a guy.
If we get a second season, they got to do something about Bree. She needs a win. Benoist can act but this character has been either whiny or tortured.
But its the opposite with Belle. Maria Bello is so much fun to watch under high pressure. Maybe its the decades of her work sticking with me.
Those Man O War scars on Harlan are really well done.
That was some good comedy with Bree finding her mom trying to get rid of her body.
The way Grady just tosses a loaded gun at one of his henchmen. lol.
That farm looks like a paintball course.
Awww. I liked Tim.
