Ironheart: S1E2 “Will The Real Natalie Please Stand Up?” Review

Episode two of Ironheart is behind me and there is a lot for me to dislike. But first, I do want to point out some good stuff that is keeping the show afloat.

Hooray for N.A.T.A.L.I.E: Lyric Ross has been the best thing about the show for the first two episodes. There is some real heart between Natalie and Riri. The friendship is effortless and there is also some poignant sadness we feel too because she’s not really there.

The future of AI for departed ones: I felt for Ronnie when she asked Riri to make her an AI of Gary. That future is coming as sure as AI continues to steal content from my blog.

Love for Alanis: The show bringing out “You Oughta Know” was great. Especially as the walkoff for “Joe” getting revenge for the dog poop in the yard.

And now the bad. And its almost entirely at the feet for Riri’s “Teammates”: The teams is the worst thing I’ve seen in Marvel in quite some time. Parker, Slug, The Blood Siblings (terrible name), Clown, they’re all just junk. Lousy characters that we don’t love to hate and instead just want to fast forward when they get dialog. That’s me. Others may shutoff the TV altogether. Anthony Ramos (Parker) and Manny Montana (who is the only tolerable one playing John) should know better.

Good heroes need strong villains. And Ironheart had an entire Marvel rogue’s gallery to choose from. I’m not even sure you can rehabilitate these guys to finish the series.

I hope it gets better. Because our main lead’s AI BFF is the best part of the show. And that can’t be for Marvel right now when they need all the momentum they can get.

What did you think of episode two? Let me know in the comments.
