Algoma Park District Right To Close Perry Park Early Due To Vandalism

Northeast Wisconsin has a vandalism problem. That has become evident so far this summer.

Donated pianos meant to bring music to the Green Bay community. Destroyed (story HERE).

Vehicles spray painted in De Pere (story HERE).

Sometimes, its an actual social activity like when poor behaving kids (and some immature adults, I see you knuckleheads) go to watch Minecraft in Sturgeon Bay and trash the place (story HERE).

And now Perry Park, where the Algoma Parks District has decided to shut the park down earlier in the day after even more vandalism (story HERE).

I don’t blame them. Not one bit.

Our communities have proven that we can’t..

1) Keep our kids occupied enough, while teaching them that vandalism is wrong.

2) Get some of our grown ups to put down the four pack of Steel Reserve and do something better with their lives.

Take your pick. They’re both bad.

One angle I haven’t talked about yet is the impact to your wallet. Vandalism of public equipment rips off your tax dollars. Destruction of private assets raises your insurance. Trashing commercial spaces mean an increase in prices, and less freedom on those properties.

So, no, I’m not going to blame anyone, including the Algoma Parks District for protecting your tax dollars. It’s all just so stupid that it has to come to that.

You probably know my advice. I’ve written about it plenty of times. The way to combat vandalism is community vigilance. If you see it taking place, don’t confront the offenders, get a good description, including the vehicles, and call law enforcement.

And if you do that enough times, then maybe you can stay at the park until the street lights come on.
