Too Much On Netflix: S1E1 Nonsense And Sensibility Recap And Review
If you’re a “Hacks” fan like myself, you realize that if you give Megan Stalter a runway, she can go in a pretty fun direction relatively quickly. And “Too Much” on Netflix is giving her a chance to see how far she can fly with her own audience.
Episode One title Nonsense And Sensibility introduces us to Stalter’s Jessica, who loses her boyfriend to an obnoxious influencer and ends up living with her mother and grandmother. She finally gets fed up and takes a showbiz job opportunity in London, where her apartment isn’t what she’d hoped for and her visions of Alan Rickman in a Jane Austen novel aren’t coming true the way she had hoped. On her first night, she finds out her former boyfriend is engaged to said influencer, and manages to meet who seems like a nice musician at a pub. They start to make out at her home, but he tells her that he seeing someone. We’re led to believe that’s a lie as he heads back to Jessica’s apartment but she’s lit herself on fire, and despite being perfectly fine is traumatized but hopeful as the show ends.
It wasn’t a bad premiere. My favorite parts were Rhea Perlman and Rita Wilson playing Jessica’s mom and grandmother, the Jessica Alba cameo, and Jessica’s recently cancer free dog, Astrid, who has big Betty from Will Trent scene stealing energy. Stalter is doing just fine as the lead.
I didn’t care for Emily “Being Beautiful Is A Curse” Ratajkowski who thankfully is playing the influencer. It’s been a decade and she hasn’t given us anything except champagne problem complaints. Thankfully her role is a small one.
Two notes:
“Tidal” by Fiona Appple is a first CD that goes pretty hard.
You dial 999 for emergency in England.
Let’s see where it goes. What did you think of the “Too Much” premiere? Let me know in the comments.
