Door County Traffic Cone Theft Sounds Silly But Can Be Dangerous And Expensive
You might think that stealing a traffic cone may not be very newsworthy. And on its face its not, and many will look at the story coming out of Door County (story HERE) and shake their head over how stupid and bored the offenders have to be. They would be right. Those guys are poorly raised idiots.
But it could get worse very quickly. Someone could have been killed by those missing cones. Then that mother or father, son or daughter, doesn’t get to go home to their family, and all of the sudden we’re planning funerals over a stupid prank. It would have been a completely preventable and senseless tragedy.
Then at the intersection of my security and local government oriented brain is also cost. These projects ain’t cheap.
And yeah, you or I could go down to Home Depot or even use this Amazon affiliate link HERE (come on, it’s also research) to go buy some cones. A six pack costs about 100 bucks.
My public school brain tells me that this is about a $300 theft.
And that’s normal economics. When it comes to construction costs, you factor in delays, and some orange rubber tariff we’ve never heard of and its likely going to be even more.
If it’s government project, that’s you and I who will pay for these stupid games.
If it’s a private project. Those costs will be passed down through their services or products, and that will still be you and I paying for it.
So, yeah. This needs to stop. And the offenders probably still think this is funny.
You know what I will laugh at? When law enforcement up there in Door County catches these clowns and sets an example.
