Atlanta Veterans Village Much Needed Win For Homeless Georgia Veterans
Struggling veterans take a lot of punishment but out of those challenges, there are occasional victories that allow us to keep the faith and keep standing up time and time again.
And Georgia veterans have another resource to ensure that when they stand up, they can stay up.
I’m talking about the Atlanta Veterans Village which opened up this week due to a partnership between Tunnels To Towers and Home Depot. It will be the home to almost 90 struggling veterans (story HERE).
The village is the first from the Home Depot Foundation T2T which is a foundation that put up $500,000 for the project and provided over 100 hundred volunteers who created a mural, put together furniture, did some gardening and set up the bathrooms.
My heart goes out to each of those volunteers. These operations are fueled by their big hearts, and the work isn’t easy either.
And while I was never able to get into a village like this one, I can tell you that these facilities can change lives. Housing is the foundation we all need to build on. Without a safe place to rest, we can’t work. If we can’t work we can’t earn. And if we can’t earn, we can never truly get back on our feet to rediscover our true potential.
This is also in Atlanta, where housing is expensive. Even in smaller markets, the reality of self sustainability is a dream for many struggling veterans.
At least for some 90 of our bravest brothers, they now have a fighting chance to get back on their feet.
