Idaho DOGE Must Spare Veterans Services In Cuts

While not necessarily a reason to panic now, it is a reason for concern, as the Idaho Department Of Government Efficiency or DOGE probes various government operations for cuts.

One of those operations is the Department Of Veterans Services (story HERE).

Now, this is not a done deal. This is a possibility.

Unfortunately, as veterans wake up in 2025 with our suicide and veterans homelessness numbers still too high, we shouldn’t cut or consolidate services for Idaho veterans.

This is because many of the operations are already short staffed. And as Americans continue to live longer, we can’t afford the risk of taking people away from providing the solutions that improve our quality of life.

And its not just about older veterans. I’m talking about younger veterans too. And specifically the military to civilian life transition services that prevent veterans from making mistakes during one of the most important times of their lives. When transition is handled properly, then homelessness and suicides are much less likely.

Idaho, specifically has a full plate at the state level. We’re talking about career services, access to military records, and educational resources.

It’s okay to believe that we need to shrink some government operations. There are indeed redundancies to be seen everywhere. And there are a lot of people getting paid in other operations very well for doing very little. Cuts are very possible there.

But there is too much work to be done in the realm of veterans affairs in all 50 states, including Idaho.

Let’s focus on making sure our veterans stop ending their lives, and have a roof over their heads at night before even considering cuts.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

And if you enjoyed this post, please help this struggling veteran see a dentist. Learn more HERE. I’d sure be grateful.
