Oshkosh Unlocked Cars Are Putting Guns On The Street
Car looters are the worst. And in 2025, they started their streak of stealing valuables from vehicles in a hurry and they haven’t stopped since (story HERE).
Including in Oshkosh, where car looters have rung up 36 thefts. (story HERE).
Now, you could probably name a lot of the items being stolen from these vehicles. Cash in the console or glove box. High end sunglasses. Maybe a Nintendo Switch or high tech work tool. Objects that would obviously be missed by the owner enough to file a police report, but nothing cataclysmic.
But unfortunately, law enforcement has reported five thefts of firearms. That is serious.
These are guns in the hands of individuals who have demonstrated they’re already prepared to break the law. And now we’ve given them a deadly weapon.
That gun could end up anywhere. It could be used to commit a robbery. It can be used to hurt a family. It could even be used against law enforcement.
And it could have been prevented if we had just locked our doors.
During my last post, I went hard on the looters. They’re generally scumbags. Either first level criminals who are often teens who weren’t raised right, or adults who never got it together and now just go around trying to steal from those who did.
But we’ve also got to do our part. This means securing our vehicles and remaining vigilant.
If you catch one of these criminals, don’t confront them. They will probably attempt to hurt you. Get a super strong description of them down to the smallest detail you can remember, and notify law enforcement.
And hopefully next year we can get these numbers down.
