Green Bay “No Kings” Didn’t Change State Of Affairs Last Summer, Still Unlikely To Now
Today, protesters will be just outside the eastern part of the urban core here in Green Bay for the latest Green Bay “No Kings” protest, which aims to oppose White House policies.
We had one earlier this year in Green Bay. And it made everyone angry. Yes, even the protesters, after a downtown bridge had to close in the middle of the event, separating the group (story HERE).
And the truth is that its still unlikely to make a difference after today. Do you want to know why? An echo chamber for an audience, or better known as “preaching to the choir”.
Listen, I respect politics on all sides. But what I enjoy is effective political maneuvers. This is not that.
This summer they protested in downtown. This is a friendly area for White House critics. No minds were changed. If anything, the traffic problems made some new enemies.
This weekend, they’re about a mile east. That’s it. Still a friendly territory.
We live in one of the biggest battlegrounds in the country. Both sides should be using an intrepid philosophy here in Northeast Wisconsin in “Happy Warrior” wrapping. Kindness goes a long way with swing voters here.
Staying on friendly turf is not intrepid. And the message today will aim to keep the cycle of vitriol in full swing.
But hey, I suppose it’s better than inaction.
And yeah, protesting is still an important civil function. “No Kings” is certainly earning its “ink” in coverage. We’re all talking about it.
Just don’t expect it to make much of a difference.
