Proposed New Green Bay Short Term Rental Rules Will Reel In Bad Owners

Whenever I tell out of town visitors that a lot of the homes near Lambeau Field are short term rentals, I always wait for a response because I’m genuinely interested to hear their opinions.

Most of the time it’s disappointment mixed with a hint of sadness.

This is because short term rentals are bad for everyone in the neighborhoods they belong in except for the owners. They become ad hoc frat houses. I’ve heard the complaints from the neighbors. We’re talking about visitors who are often in town to get “blasted”, make noise, and then wear opposing team colors to make the Packers look bad.

This is why I’m not opposed to reviewing the short term rentals policy in Green Bay (story HERE). Green Bay Short Term Rental owners only want to take from our community. They never want to help out with the work.

But they’re going to show up now. Because they’re being asked to be responsible. And being responsible doesn’t fall in line with their late night, cable television dream of passive income where they do nothing.

Some of the measures being proposed would extend the minimum stay. This would reduce churn in peaceful neighborhoods.

Then there are the fees. Green Bay fees are way “below market”. That’s actually a real estate term. Given everything our community is going through, the opposition of bringing it up to “market” would be a hypocritical stance by short term real estate owners.

And finally a three strike policy for violations from bad owners. And they are out there. Just look at the draft (story HERE).

This is going to be a heated debate. I urge you to listen to it. And don’t buy the fallacies that people are going to try to sell you to preserve their bottom line at the expense of your quality of life.
