My goodness. It’s amazing how greed manages to mobilize even the most tone deaf of would be political warriors.

Such is the case with the Green Bay Short Term Rental Alliance. A group that came together as soon as they realized that they could be required to make their STRs safe for out of town visitors. Or heaven forbid, contribute to the community that makes their business possible to begin with.

This was the case at the Green Bay Common Council meeting last night, where this alliance, (many of them who use short term rentals as supplement income in exchange for disturbing the peace in the neighborhood), rallied in a discussion that lasted hours.

The ordinance in question would implement a three strikes policy to bad owners who do business while violating local ordinances, and bring fees up to speed with the development of the entire community (story HERE).

These are the same bad owners who got lazy when the world was watching us for the NFL Draft (story HERE). They’re already operating on a deficit in the integrity column.

And keep in mind, when residents are discussing other community matters that effect our quality of life in Green Bay, these “slacktivists” are absent.

They don’t care about you. They don’t care about me. They don’t even care about the safety of their guests. They only care about their own bottom line.

And greed is powerful fuel for the money fire. The real estate lobby can mobilize mighty quickly. Whether its refusing to pay fines for putting others in danger, or opposing housing for veterans, they’ll be there.

The Green Bay STR Alliance represents a rare strain of sloth-like behavior motivated only when their money is in danger. And they should be opposed in regards to this ordianance.
