Discover Green Bay Shouldn’t Be Taking Sides In Short Term Rental Fight
Discover Green Bay is the go-to marketing organization for tourism in the region. They’re mascots responsible for promoting everything Green Bay to the rest of the world in the name of economic development.
Which raises the question why they would be turning on Green Bay residents by taking sides in the battle over short term rentals?
This is the case we find ourselves in as the next round of discussion is set to take place at the Green Bay Common Council as the Green Bay Short Term Rental Alliance tries to kill off the last safety measures protecting residents from bad guests in the name of their bottom line.
And now Discover Green Bay is a mascot for them too according to the STR Alliance’s social media distribution.
Members of the alliance are considering breaking down or removing altogether the “three strikes” rule that would hold property owners accountable for bad guests.
We’re talking about bad guests who will tell you, the owner of the neighboring property, to keep your kids quiet and to take your dogs indoors, so they can perform their kegstands in peace while they’re friends park all over the grass.
Discover Green Bay is okay with that.
What we’re seeing is the assembly of third party groups like AirBnB and Discover Green Bay continue to mobilize against simple homeowners who just want to enjoy living in this wonderful community without feeling like a prisoner in their own homes.
Discover Green Bay should have stuck to their charts and graphs. But now they’re in the fight and Green Bay residents won’t forget how they turned on them the next time bad short term rental guests are disrupting the lives of the people who make tourism in Green Bay possible to begin with.
