Ashwaubenon Pedestrians Still Aren’t Safe Walking Into 2026
Sometimes, I wonder where the priorities of the Village Of Ashwaubenon lie.
This year, they set microtransit back a couple of years with cumbersome rules on electric vehicles in a community that already doesn’t have an answer on how to get retail and food service workers to their place of employment.
There are still drug deals and consumption taking place at the mall on almost a daily basis.
And they proposed an ordinance that designated our homeless veterans a “nuisance” and tried to have them shoo’ed out of their community.
Then we come to a problem that very much does exist that there still not doing anything about.
Pedestrian safety.
It’s true. Pedestrians are still almost hit everyday on Oneida. Particularly Oneida and Anderson.
A year later, and I personally almost get hit about once a month (story HERE).
And the problems are still the same.
Bad drivers don’t pay attention when turning right, which means they almost hit pedestrians who have the white walk light or red countdown signal and the right of way.
Motorcycle riders will catwalk right through a red light on Friday and Saturday nights, while they’re buddies record them on their phones.
They don’t even pay attention to the lighted pedestrian crossing and that’s right in front of their municipal building.
Not to mention that they hate sidewalks. You walkers that still have to share a road with cars, which is especially dangerous at night on icy roads.
I just don’t understand why they have to make it so hard.
Why can’t they hold bad drivers accountable? If someone runs a light or ignores a pedestrian signal, then that driver needs to be cited.
Their inaction will get someone killed.
And then we’re all going to wonder why they didn’t take action that could have saved that person’s life.
