Magic The Gathering: Maximus, Knight Apparent, Could Make Fallout Power Armor Relevant
![]()
There is a good chance that if you’re reading this article, then you were really excited about the Fallout Power Armor entering the world of Magic: The Gathering. After all, the concept of equipping your creature with the power armor and laying waste to your enemies does sound rather cool.
Unfortunately, the T-45 Power Armor the Fallout set gave us revolved around an awkward energy mechanic. Meaning, if you didn’t have energy counters then you couldn’t even untap, making the +3/+3 buff almost worthless.
But luckily for us armor enthusiasts, the Rad Superdrop Secret Lair due to release at the end of this month, allows us to revisit the world of Fallout, including the Amazon Prime TV series, in which the armor is heavily featured around one of the main characters.
Enter Maximus, Knight Apparent. Let’s read the card….
Trample
When Maximus enters, you may search your library for an equipment card with mana value 2, reveal it, put it in your hand and shuffle.
(1), Sacrifice an artifact, get two energy counters.
Now Maximus fixes quite a few problems with the armor.
You can sac an artifact for an energy counter. This eliminates a desperate need for immediate energy.
Then, Maximus himself already has trample. so you’re free to pick Lifelink or Menace instead.
And Maximus by himself is already a 4/4. Stack on the +3/+3, and a couple of other auras or equipments, and you could have a powerful Voltron commander on your hands. At least a 7/7.
While I’ve always found Maximus on the show kind of creepy, I do appreciate what he’s doing in Magic. And it gives hope to us MTG players, who would love to get some mileage from that armor.
