Magic The Gathering: Five Things To Watch On Lorwyn Pre Release Weekend

Lorwyn Eclipsed has arrived, and as we all head out to our local game stores to participate in pre release events, there are a lot of aspects to the set that we’re going to have to keep an eye on. None of these will be surprises to the regular MTG player but all of them should be fun to observe.

Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles leaks: Yeah, some might jokingly say this is a TMNT pre release too, as cards for the March release of our “turtles in a half shell” have leaked in Lorwyn sets. Story HERE.

The “bling” factor of the Lorwyn Eclipsed set: MTG has done a lovely job with art over the past couple of months. Avatar was a pretty set, and Lorwyn looks to be equally impressive. This matters because even if the cards aren’t explosive, you still want your purchase to look good.

The response from the anti “Universes Beyond” crowd: This is going to be a big year for “Universes Beyond” and while Lorwyn should play just fine with the “old guard”, they’re still going to have to endure TMNT, Marvel Superheroes, and Star Trek.

The “Blight” mechanic and Precon mods: I’ve heard from a few players who have big plans for the blight -1/-1 mechanic. And when you consider the possibilities this should concern a lot of their opponents as they explore this release (more HERE).

What does the money look like?: At the end of the day, this is still a business, and Wizards Of The Coast has a big year planned. And success means tables full of players and full cash registers.

What are you seeing out there? Let me know in the comments.
