Magic The Gathering: Chronicles Of Victory Is Turning Into A Game Ender

One of the cards turning heads at Lorwyn Eclipsed pre release events this weekend was Chronicles Of Victory. And when I say turning heads, I mean ending games. This creature buff is a highlight in a set where doing the opposite with the blight mechanic is a featured objective.

Let’s read the card:

Legendary Artifact (6)

As Chronicle of Victory enters, choose a creature type.
Creatures you control of the chosen type get +2/+2 and have first strike and trample.
Whenever you cast a spell of the chosen type, draw a card.

Yeah, this is a powerful card. A legendary artifact indeed.

Obviously, we have to talk about the effect on tribal decks. Especially in Lorwyn, where we’ve got elves, goblins, and a couple of others. When you’ve got a big board, giving everything +2/+2 is a terrific advantage. Then you’ve got first strike and trample for the big guys.

And if that wasn’t enough, you get card draw.

And let’s go beyond the smaller tribal decks. What if you’re running dragons? Dinosaurs? Angels? This card is going to be a serious problem.

We also can’t ignore the back end. Increasing combat damage is one thing, but then removal becomes a serious issue. How are you going to get these tribes off of the board with this kind of toughness?

All in all, I really like this card, and it’s going to be a problem for a lot of us as Magic: The Gathering players figure out how to work this card into their already powerful tribal decks outside of what they got with Lorwyn.

What do you think about Chronicle Of Victory? Let me know in the comments.
