Magic The Gathering: Hexing Squelcher Is A Blue Creature Disguised As A Red Creature

One of the best things about the Lorwyn Eclipsed set, is that it takes liberties with the ways things have typically been done in Magic: The Gathering and switches them around a little bit.

My buddies know I love mono red. It was the only color I played for a couple of years. But I missed being able to tinker with the rest of the color mechanics without dragging around artifacs. This mono red creature allows you to do just that.

Meet Hexing Squelcher.

Let’s read the card

(1,1R) 2/2:

This Spell Can’t Be Countered
Ward: Pay 2 life
Spells you control can’t be countered.
Other creatures you control have “Ward- Pay 2 Life”

Well, goodness. All of that is just lovely.

But let’s be real, these are all things you would find on a blue card. This is because you’re depriving other players of doing stuff.

They can’t counter anything you throw at them. Including this little guy (you’ve got to love that art by the way. It looks like a goat.).

They have to pay to hurt you. And they also have to pay to get to your other creatures.

That is some pretty bluish behavior.

This is cause for celebration if you’re a red player. Think. You can just burn away without a care in the world. You can also cast removals and buffs without worrying about someone else getting in your way.

That’s pretty nifty.

I’ll be adding this little guy to my decks. And I’ll do so with a smile because creatures like this one don’t get to these parts of the aggro spectrum very often.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
