Farmer Wants A Wife: Show disses Orlando and doesn’t deserve your attention
This week FOX premiered “Farmer Wants a Wife” a show that claims to be “Yellowstone meets The Bachelor”.
I was preparing to view and even follow the program. After all, the network had Joe Millionaire last year and I followed that happily. And if you read this blog, you found a lot of coverage of the Real Love Boat.
Alternatives to the Bachelor are a good thing for TV.
But the premiere decided to diss my hometown of Orlando. A really crappy way to introduce yourself to a top 25 market and the rest of the country really.
During a speed dating montage, we meet a contestant (who I’m not going to put on blast here) who promptly states that gentlemen are hard to come by in Orlando.
That’s crap. If you’re familiar with my writing, you know that I don’t take vertical criticism of the community I grew up in very well. Especially in a non constructive manner like this one.
I’m not even sure why the producers decided to air it. But it was stupid.
What I want to know is “Was it worth it?”.
I’ll be opposing the show. That’s unfortunate because I like Jennifer Nettles. I hope she continues to do more meaningful work outside of this nonsense.
And to the producers, I would urge to just be better. I don’t turn on my television expecting to be insulted.
Skip Farmer Wants a Wife. And if you’re from Orlando, tell your neighbors to skip it too.
