The Last of Us: Renewal comes with “Game of Thrones” risk of thinning out material

To no one’s surprise (because its excellent), “The Last of Us” has been renewed by HBO, meaning that we’ll be seeing more of Joel and Ellie beyond this year.

But how much more? And how will writers stretch out the story?

Fans of the video game already know how things turn out, and there is some slack there. But not an infinite amount of slack. There has to be a definite end.

If showrunners don’t plan right then they could have themselves another “Game of Thrones” situation.

You know what I’m talking about. I’m talking about that last season of Game of Thrones that no one seemed to enjoy. The Danerys heel turn. Jon not petting the damn dog. All of it.

What steps will “The Last of Us” producers take to prevent another situation like that one from occurring?

And furthermore, how many gambles do they take before they hurt their standing as one of the most loyal game to screen adaptations that we’ve seen?

Audiences were uneasy after that kiss from last week (story HERE). And we still don’t know how they’ll act when the ending of the first game arrives (story HERE).

Still, at the end of the day this is great news. Don’t let my negativity spoil the occasion.

And if you want a reason for some creative hope, I would encourage you to check out the behind the scenes featurettes following the show. These guys have a next level love for what they’re doing. They were crying when they saw the clickers for the first time for goodness sake.

If that’s not love, I’m not sure what is.

If you enjoyed this post. Help me out below. Even a dollar helps. Thank you!
