We’ve finally seen the return of Sylvester Stallone as Dwight “The General” Manfredi with the season 2 premiere of “Tulsa King” dropping on Paramount Plus this weekend.

And his return was fine. It kept the Grand Theft Auto dynamic that I enjoyed from the first season, while introducing some new characters.

By new characters, I’m talking mostly about Cal Thresher, played by a sentimental TV favorite, Neal McDonough, and Frank Grillo as Bill Bevilaqua who got a pretty cool introducing shot. They see Dwight expanding his “Sooner State” empire and are not to hyped about it.

But you’ve also still got Chickie up in New York planning his revenge.

Oh, and the pending court case triggered by Stacy flipping on Dwight at the close of the premiere season.

Basically, our general is fighting a three front war, and I’m cool with it.

While the degree of difficulty for Dwight was fine in the freshman season, these Taylor Sheridan crowds love the ramping opposition. Ask the Duttons in “Yellowstone” about that. There is always someone who is bigger and badder waiting in the wings.

It sounds like a heavy episode but we actually had a lot of fun here. The dress up with Bodhi, Tyson, and the rest of the guys was fun. We also had the return of the Dwight-Tyson banter which made us care about their relationship from the jump. And when you throw in the Armand issues and the return of Margaret (played by my crush of 30 plus years, Dana Delany) then there was a lot to like here.

So, if you enjoyed the first season of “Tulsa King” I think you’ll be just fine with the premiere. And join me this season as we follow “The General” together.
