MTG Mono Red Man: Playful Shove is a subtle nudge towards victory

Intro: Oh, look at that art. Hard to dislike Bloomburrow when everything is so dog-gone adorable. Even the mono red stuff, in which that particular release didn’t have too much for us. But Playful Shove is a card you play for a smile at the table. As long as its not a kill shot, then you might not get too much love in that regard.

What the card actually says:

Playful shove deals one damage to any target.

Draw a card.

The boisterous pat on the back was painful but nearly as painful as the joke that inspired it.

Analysis: It’s a low cost, 2 mana card that does two helpful things for you. It deals a point of damage to any target. This could include your own stuff that would set off any effects of that target card. And just as importantly, it lets you draw a card. You know how bad we suffer from card draw at many times during the game. It’s a good card if you’ve got the space in your deck.

How does it feel when you play it?: It’s cool. Not a lot of people remember the card. The art is fun. And it’s useful. As an early play, it’s not going to be a big gamebreaker but I feel just fine when I pull it.

Conclusion: Playful Shove is just fine. And if you use it at the right time, it could set off some pivotal effects, and it could help you draw that board wipe when you need it most.

But just look at that art.
