If you can remember when Bridesmaids came out, you looked at the cast and just kind of shrugged. Yeah, we knew all of these actors were funny but we had no idea that they would come together for one of the best comedies of the era.

Bridesmaids arrives on Netflix this month, and if it’s somehow passed you by for all of these years, check it out. Excellent comedies have been very scarce since this one dropped.

Annie and Lillian (Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, both off of epic turns at Saturday Night Live) play best friends with the latter getting hitched. We head to the engagement party where we meet the rest of the bridesmaids, which includes rival friend Helen (Rose Byrne) and Becca, Rita and Megan (Ellie Kemper, Wendy McLendon Covey, and Melissa McCarthy). The rivalry between Annie and Helen leads to a tumultuous and hilarious road to the wedding for the entire party.

It’s so much fun.

There is a reason that all of these actresses springboarded into their own lead projects after this movie all came out, including McCarthy, who went on an epic run after this for years. They’re all perfectly casted and just so much fun to be around. All of the jokes not only land but the laughs a minute are pretty high for a movie.

It is a little long at just over two hours and it’s generous with the cheese later on. But you might not even notice it.

Bridesmaids is great and easily holds up. If you haven’t watched it, you should. You’ll laugh and feel great afterwards.
