MTG Mono Red Man: Taunting Kobold is cheap goading fun

Intro: First off. You’re probably wondering what the heck is a Kobold. I sure didn’t know.

They are small reptilian humanoids that often tease those in their orbit and are fond of stealing things. Agents of chaos for sure.

Which is why I love Taunting Kobold. And it’s an effective goading device for us mono red players that love chaos.

What the card actually says:

Haste

Whenever Taunting Kobold attacks, goad target creature an opponent controls. (Until your next turn, that creature attacks each combat if able and attack another player other than you if able).

Pozo’s heart was full of courage, right up until it was full of elven steel

Analysis: It’s a great card. This little jerk can goad almost anyone, potentially causing some devastating conflict that can change the trajectory of the game. He’s an 0/1 which technically makes him harmless but he’s got haste which could compel action right away. If you buff him with some protection, he could be a real pain. You get all of this for just one mana. It’s a steal.

How it feels when you play him: Goading rubs players differently. It can potentially be toxic, but if you’re a mono red player it’s an absolutely necessary mechanic for a color that is already at a disadvantage with each release.

Conclusion: Taunting Kobold is just great and while it might not have a home in every mono red deck, he could be a determining factor when he’s making a 10/10 swing at one of your rivals instead of you.
